Question:   Who is eligible to apply for grants?
Answer:   All active full-time, AAA NCNU employees are eligible to apply for grants.  Employees must be employed at AAA for at least 3 months.  Part-time, past employees, retirees and/or family members are not eligible to participate in this program.

Question:  Where can a Dollars for Doers application form be obtained?
Answer:  Application forms can be obtained at Here or by emailing Roger Hancock.

Question:  Does an employee need to be a volunteer for the organization for which a grant is being applied? Answer:  Yes! An employee must be an active volunteer of an eligible non-profit community service organization.

Question:  Will grants be awarded for an individual?
Answer:  Funding must be targeted towards organizations which assist broad-based constituencies, not individuals.  For example, if an application is submitted requesting funding to pay the salary of an individual or for a scholarship for an individual, that application would be declined.

Question:  What types of organizations are considered eligible for this program?
Answer:  Grants are restricted to tax-exempt, non-profit, community-based 501 (c)(3) organizations.  Organizations that do not have or are in the process of obtaining their tax-exempt status are not eligible for this program.

Question:  What types of organizations are considered ineligible for this program?
Answer:  Organizations that are not eligible are profit-making organizations, strictly religious organizations, and political, labor and fraternal organizations.  Organizations primarily supported by tax revenues or those focused on athletics or recreation -- such as town recreation programs will not normally be eligible.

Any organization that discriminates on the basis of race, religious creed, color, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, national origin, ancestry, physical disability, mental disability, medical condition, genetic characteristics, pregnancy, veteran status, marital status or any other category prohibited by state or federal law, is not eligible.

Question:  What type of information needs to be supplied regarding the employee's involvement with the organization?
Answer:  The employee needs to provide information on how long he/she has volunteered with the organization, including committee service or any other noteworthy service to the organization.  The AAA employee or the non-profit must track the hours volunteered.  The non-profit organization must verify the hours volunteered by the AAA employee.

Question:  How much will AAA donate?
Answer:  When an employee donates 30 hours of his/her own personal time to a qualifying non-profit organization, AAA will donate $300 to that organization.  (If multiple employees submit Dollars for Doers grants for the same organization in a calendar year, the organization is limited to receiving $600 from AAA in that year.)

Question:  Are there any geographic limitations to the donation?
Answer:  In most cases, organizations receiving donations from AAA must be tax-exempt, non-profit institutions located and operating in California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and/or Oklahoma.

Question:  I actively participate on the board of a non-profit organization.  Can I apply for a Dollars for Doers grant?
Answer:  No. Employees serving on boards may utilize the AAA Board Service Grant program, and must complete a Board Service Grant application.

Question:  Can I complete both a Dollars for Doers application and a Board Service Grant application for the same non-profit organization?
Answer:  No.  You must choose one program or the other (which ever is most appropriate).

Question:  How does the organization receive the Dollars For Doers volunteer money?
Answer:  An employee needs to request a letter from the nonprofit organization verifying the number of hours donated.  Letters must be signed by an executive of the organization.  Letters also must be sent by October 31 to:

    AAA-Community Affairs
    3055 Oak Raoad W520
    Walnut Creek, CA 94597
